It wasn’t Malory’s big thing, we might add, because–curiously enough–it wasn’t Walter Map’s big thing, either: he needed sinners, not saints, to build his grand allegory of sin and redemption. So here’s a side of dark-ages British folklore we don’t get to dip into very often, but I know I’ll be doing more dipping now that I’ve been pointed in that direction.
